New Makeup Releases in February - Hot or Not?

Hello fellow beauty lovers, I can't wait to show you what's going to be gracing the makeup community this month! Everything that is currently available at the time of posting I've linked to save you time! But, let's cut the chit chat short and dive straight in and find out what's new in beauty in the month of February.

Morphe X Jeffree Star:

Instagram / Morphe Brushes
This collaboration was very surprising and unannounced, but Morphe is working with none other than makeup mogul, Jeffree Star. The collection will include a bundle of 7 face and eye brushes, a brush bag and sponges, which can all be purchased individually.

PRICE LIST
£48 - Bundle (brushes, sponges and makeup bag)
£16 - 2 sponges
£10 - Makeup bag
£17 - JS1 - big powder brush
£19 - JS2 - big powder brush
£8 - JS3 - small contour brush
£10 - JS4 - highlighting brush
£8 - JS5 - crease brush
£8 - JS6 - blender brush
£5 - JS7 - spoolie and eyebrow brush

RELEASE DATE
5th February

HOT
  • I like the design of the brush handles, as they're something different from what's currently on the market.

NOT
  • I'm slightly confused why the 2 powder brushes are a lot more expensive than the other brushes. They're not really in line with Morphe's prices of similar brushes.
  • Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the actual brushes, as I'm not sure what I would use some of them for. For example, the small contour brush seems too small to use on the cheeks and forehead, but too large for the nose.
  • Finally, I don't get on with synthetic brush hair as I don't find they blend as nicely as natural brush hair. However, half of the brush collection features natural hair.

£49 - Sunset collection (with or without the sunglasses)
£33 - Quads
£20 - Liquid lipsticks

RELEASE DATE
5th February

WHERE

HOT
  • I like that you can choose how much of the collection you can purchase, meaning you're not stuck with buying the whole lot and getting products you weren't keen on to begin with.
  • I also appreciate that they are coming out with separate warm and cool toned collections, as not everyone has the same taste!
  • You can do a full look with the palettes.
  • You can switch out the colours for existing shades you own, making it totally customisable and workable with your current ABH collection.

NOT
  • The quads, I believe, are expensive, seeing as their other 14 pan palettes are £43.

Anastasia Beverly Hills:

Instagram / Anastasia Beverly Hills
The latest palette to drop from Anastasia Beverly Hills is the 'Riviera' eyeshadow palette. The nautical theme packaging features some brighter shades of pink and purple, which is unusual for ABH, but they are paired with more wearable shades of peach.

PRICES
£46

RELEASE DATE
4th March

WHERE

HOT
  • Different to what they have already released.
  • I like the divide of mattes and shimmers.

NOT
  • The outside of the palette doesn't match the inside. I expected the inside of the palette to be filled with blues and golds, but instead it's an array of neutral and bright colours.
  • I feel like some of the mattes are too similar to each other, and could have done with a mid-toned brown, rather than 4 peach shades.

New British brand, Beauty Bay, have revealed the newest editions to their 'Everything You Need' collection, will be 4 eyeshadow palettes. They will range from 9, 16 and 42 pan sizes, and feature different hues of brown, neutral shades, in both shimmer and matte formulas.

PRICES
£8 - 9 pan
£12 - 16 pan
£23 - 42 pan

RELEASE DATE
28th February

WHERE

HOT
  • Really like that they're releasing them in different pan sizes, as not everyone wants 42 pans of brown, whilst makeup artists would benefit from having more shades on offer!
  • Good for people who are just starting their makeup collection.
  • Love that they are releasing palettes completely matte, shimmer and a mixture, so literally everyone's needs are catered for. You go Beauty Bay!

NOT
  • Nothing!

WHERE

HOT
  • The packaging is everything.
  • The shades of lipstick, glosses and palette are all very wearable.
  • I mean, have you ever seen a prettier fix plus?
NOT
  • The pink 'highlighter' is in fact a matte powder, and I believe, has been wrongly advertised.
  • Wish it wasn't limited edition!

WHERE

HOT
  • Love that you can choose whether you want the larger or smaller version of the product, as it will appeal to a much larger audience.
  • The smaller version of the palette will be perfect for travel.
  • I like the shades chosen for inside each palette, as they're all classic Benefit shades.

NOT
  • Would have preferred a rectangular mirror in the larger palette (this is me being picky).
  • I hope they will release the new shades in singles and not make them exclusive to the palettes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills:

Instagram / Anastasia Beverly Hills
The Queen of brows, Anastasia Beverly Hills, are releasing a new product called a dip brow gel. It seems to be a hybrid of their cult classics dip brow pomade and brow gel, offering full pigmentation and lasting power. It will come in 11 shades, and 2 different sizes.

WHERE

HOT
  • I like that they have recognised people have different undertones to their hair and have a full range of cool, warm and red undertones to the product.
  • Love that there's 2 different sizes, because it means you can purchase the more affordable travel size to begin with to make sure you like the product and the shade.

NOT
  • Nothing to complain about.

Givenchy Beauty:

Givenchy Beauty are coming out with a new foundation and concealer. The foundation claims to have 24-hour wear, hydrating with a satin finish, with the concealer coincidently being radiant also. The downside to this launch is the shade range. The foundation has 20 shades and the concealer only 10, all of which are for lighter skin tones. To still be seeing brands do this is so disappointing. To view the full shade range, look up the hashtag 'givenchybeauty' on Instagram. I hope they release a statement explaining their thought process behind this launch, and at least double the shade range. Anyway, enough words have been wasted on this launch, so let's move on!

ColourPop X Zoella:

Instagram / ColourPop
ColourPop are no strangers to collaborations, and announced the next influencer they are working with is none other than British vlogger, Zoella. The collection will include: an eyeshadow palette, 2 cheek powders, 2 'Supernova Shadows', 2 gel liners, 3 'Ultra-Matte' lips and a makeup bag.

PRICES
$89 - Full collection
$18 - Eyeshadow palette
$8 - Powder blush
$8 - Powder highlighter
$14 - Supernova shadow bundle (no savings)
$7 - Single supernova shadow
$5 - Gel eyeliner
$11.50 - Lip bundle
$6.50 - Single matte lip
$10 - Makeup bag

RELEASE DATE
27th February

WHERE

HOT
  • Cute 70s theme to the range.

NOT
  • I'm not too sure why ColourPop chose Zoe for this collaboration, as she already has a beauty and lifestyle range of her own. I think it would have been nice if the collaboration went to a smaller YouTuber influencer who needed the exposure more and who is a loyal and faithful customer  I say this because numerous other beauty gurus have posted videos and photos using, and promoting her products, whilst Zoe is yet to post a video herself using her own products? Odd?
  • Similarly, it would have made more sense if an American content creator received the brand deal, as Zoe, and many of her followers, live in the UK, and it is not convenient to order ColourPop here. We have to pay an extortionate amount of money in shipping and customs fees, and also wait a longer time for the product to arrive.
  • Finally, the colours in the palette have been done countless times by drugstore and higher-end brands alike; neutrals with a pop of blue. It would have been nice to have seen some variety in tones and shades.

Tarte:

Instagram / Tarte
Tarte came into the firing line last year when a photo was released online of the shade range of their long-awaited 'Shape Tape' foundation. It was beyond disappointing, especially as it was released after the launch of Fenty Beauty, who shook the beauty world for the better with inclusive shade ranges. Since that scandal, Tarte are trying to rectify the situation by releasing a new 'Face Tape' foundation and discontinuing the previous formulas. This time it will be available in 50 shades in 5 different undertones: neutral, sand/yellow, honey/peach, beige/pink, and golden/olive. It claims to be waterproof, sweat proof and long-lasting.

PRICES
£33

RELEASE DATE
17th February

WHERE

HOT
  • Nice packaging, as this time the product comes in pump form, rather than giant doe-foot.

NOT
  • Not everyone wants the same formula. I feel they hit the nail on the head with the concept in their previous launch by having one dewy and one matte foundation.
  • I feel like it's a little bit late for realising that people of colour are just as important when creating shades and not an afterthought.

Benefit:

Instagram / Benefit

RELEASE DATE
1st March

WHERE

HOT
  • Love that they are slowly, but surely, expanding their Hoola range, as their blush range is also quite inclusive.

NOT
  • Wish they would change their packaging from boxes to compacts, due to convenience.
