New Makeup in January 2019 - Hot or Not?

Hello fellow makeup lovers! I have decided to start a new segment on my blog dedicated to showcasing the latest makeup of the month and decide whether the release is hot or not, based on shade ranges, packaging and results.

So, if like me, you want to see what new makeup has been released during January, then keep scrolling to find out!

Fenty Beauty:

Instagram / Fenty Beauty
On 2nd January, Fenty Beauty took to Instagram to unveil what they have been working on for the past year, and showed us new concealers, powders, brushes and sponges that will be made available to consumers on the 11th January. Alongside the new launches, Rihanna has ensured that 10 new shades of the already existing 'Pro Filt'r' foundation will launch also, bringing the total number of shades up to 50.

PRICES
£19 - Concealer
£24 - Powder
£26 - Powder brush
£19 - Concealer brush
£16 - 2 sponge set

RELEASE DATE
11th January

HOT
  • The concealer will be available in 50 shades. Yes, you did read that right, 50 shades! I believe this is a first from a beauty brand to bring out this many concealer shades at once, and I hope other brands follow suit.
  • There will be 8 shades of the loose setting powder, suitable for all skin tones.
  • The powder claims to have no flashback, making it ideal for flash photography as well as everyday use.
  • High standard of shade ranges across the board, making it a very inclusive brand for all skin tones and undertones.

NOT
  • The brushes are made with synthetic hair which I'm personally not a lover of, but if you are, then these will be perfect for you!
VERDICT = HOT

Morphe:

Morphe UK Website
On the 1st January, Morphe posted a picture suggesting they were to be coming out with complexion products. Although the brand already had an existing concealer, they decided to rebrand, redo and relaunch new foundations, concealers, powders and primers in a range of shades.

PRICES
£18 - Foundation
£12 - Primer
£9 - Concealer
£12 - Powder

RELEASE DATE
17th January

WHERE

HOT
  • The foundation will be available in 60 shades, ranging from very fair to dark with medium shades in between.
  • The concealer has also been produced in 30 shades, meaning there should be a few shades to choose from to be able to highlight and contour with.
  • The powder is accessible in 12 shades, which is a surprisingly better range than most other brands, especially those from the drugstore.
  • Overall, it seems to have an inclusive shade range, which I'm glad to be seeing more of in the new year. The products are also good value for money.

NOT
  • It's a full coverage foundation, which isn't my favourite, as I much prefer a light weight foundation that's of a more buildable coverage. I wish more companies would bring out lighter matte foundations, or conversely, bring out a wider variety rather than either 1 matte or 1 dewy foundation.

The new shades 'Get Lit' and 'Shimmy Peach', will pull more iridescent and deep bronze respectively.

  • The liquid liner is in black and brown, which is a staple for many people, and always in demand from consumers.
  • Companies lack brightening eyeliners, so it's well overdue!

NOT
  • Would be nice to see more shades of the liquid and pencil eyeliners in the future, perhaps in colourful, neutral and metallic shades.

Hourglass:

Instagram / Cult Beauty

Hourglass have revealed that the next product they are launching is a liquid foundation. It has bold claims of being full coverage with a natural finish, and also being water, transfer and swear proof for 24 hours.

PRICES
£51

RELEASE DATE
25th January

WHERE

HOT
  • I like that the finish is natural and not fully matte or fully dewy, as it makes a nice change and it well on-brand.
  • 32 shades is a good start, but more should be added, and not as an afterthought.

NOT
  • Diabolical undertones in their shade range. The 'fair' shades are not even that pale, and all pull more pink, with only the darker shades having yellow undertones, meaning I will not be able to purchase this foundation as I am fair with more neutral-yellow undertones.
  • The price is also very expensive.

HOT
  • I love that there's 7 shades, great for blondes, redheads and darker hair, meaning everyone is included.
  • Their pricing is in line with other companies who focus on brow products.
  • Furthermore, they are really reasonably priced, seeing as many of the products are multi-functional with multiple shades and come with additional tools.
  • Sleek packaging.

NOT
  • Cannot find fault with the collection!

Kat Von D:

Instagram / Kat Von D Beauty
Kat Von D is well known for their already existing contour palettes, featuring 6 shades of tones to highlight and contour the skin, however, the brand has now revealed it will be coming out with new contour and highlight duos! They will be much more suitable to travel with, and more realistic, as who actually uses all 6 shades in contour kits anyway? Kat Von D has finally provided a product I have been long awaiting for, as I've always been on the hunt for the perfect contour and highlight duo, and at last my search is over!

PRICES
£21

RELEASE DATE
4th February

WHERE
Debenhams

HOT
  • Nice sleek packaging which is on-brand.
  • I love that finally a brand has released contour and highlight duos rather than big palettes, as I have never seen the point in them as one person will never use all the shades as they're targeted at different skin tones.

NOT
  • Need more than 3 shades, which I hope she launches more in the future, but if she does, then it begs the question; why didn't see do it to begin with?
VERDICT = HOT but disappointing shade range

  • They're slightly cheaper than her previous blushes, bronzers and highlighters.
  • Great shade range.
  • I love that the lipsticks are creamy and not matte.

Kat Von D:

Instagram / Kat Von D Beauty
As well as the powder contour and highlight duos, Kat Von D beauty will also be releasing a 'Lock-it' powder foundation, that is meant to be full coverage and will come in 24 shades.

PRICES
£28

RELEASE DATE
25th January

WHERE
Debenhams

HOT
  • On brand packaging with the black stamp logo.
  • I like that its a full coverage powder and not a sheer setting powder.

NOT
  • I personally dislike the shade range, as I feel the jump between the lighter shades is far too large, and as a result I believe none of the powders will match me. This is becoming a recurring theme this month, but, once again more focus on other skin tones in needed.
  • £28 is really expensive for one powder.

VERDICT = The product itself is HOT, but the shade range is nowhere near good enough

  • I'm a history nerd so I personally fell in love with the Greek style packaging as soon as I saw it!
  • I love the colours chosen for inside the palette with the mix of mattes and shimmers equalling out perfectly in my opinion. I also appreciate that it's not another warm toned palette.
  • It's basically my perfect palette!

NOT
  • Would love to see more shades of the eye crayon.

Revolution Beauty have also come out with new baking and setting powders, a new edition to their every-growing range of products.
